IInformation about Egypt
Egypt is a world wonder, known to the inhabitants of the
country as the "Mother of the World" for its millenary history. It is
the country where you will find the largest city in the Middle East, the delta
of the vast Nile River and some of the most precious relics of the world.
Cairo is the capital of Egypt and the most important city
in the country. With a population of almost 20 million, Cairo is also the most
populous city in Africa.
Geography :
Located between Africa, Asia and Europe, Egypt is located
around the Nile Valley, a very fertile land that borders the river and that
limits the Mediterranean Sea to the north and the Red Sea to the east. The
narrow strip of territory on both banks of the Nile has historically housed 90%
of the population. To the east of the valley is the Arabian Desert, delimited
by a high chain of mountains. To the west is the Libyan desert that stretches across
the upper tip of North Africa. The demarcation line of Cairo, the capital city,
separates Lower Egypt (all that remains north of Cairo) from Upper Egypt (all
that extends south). To the east, crossing the Suez Canal, is the triangular
wedge of the Sinai Peninsula where Mount Sinai and Mount Caterina, the highest
peak in Egypt (2,642 m), rise
Weather:
Egypt is in the subtropical zone. The climate is
characterized by hot and dry summers and mild and stable winters, that is; warm
period from May to September and cold from November to March.
Egypt has an arid desert climate and is generally warm
and sunny. As part of the Northern Hemisphere, seasons in Egypt follow the same
pattern as in Europe and North America, with winter falling between November
and January, and peak summer months falling between June and August.
Population :
With a population of 100 million, Egypt is home to a
quarter of the population of the Arab world. The city of Cairo alone already
has about 16 million inhabitants, the highest population density in the world.
The Egyptian population is made up of people from diverse
backgrounds. Most come from the settlers of Ancient Egypt and the Nile Valley,
while others have Arabic and Levantine origins or are descendants of the
Nubians of Upper Egypt.
Language :
Arabic is the official language and it is spoken by all
Egyptians. It should be noted that Arabic spoken on the street is often a
dialect and differs greatly from classical Arabic. Although English is
widespread, locals will appreciate the fact that you take the time to learn a
few words and phrases. In resorts such as Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada, many
other European languages are spoken such as French, German, Italian or
Russian.
Religion:
Religion in Egypt controls many aspects of social life
and is backed by law. Egypt's state religion is Islam.
Although the majority of Egyptians are Muslims, there are
more than 12 million Christians currently living in Egypt. Copts play an
important role in Egyptian society, especially in the economic, cultural and
artistic fields.
In Egypt, Muslims and Christians share a common history,
national identity, ethnicity, race, culture, and language.
If you know Egypt, you will see that Egyptian Muslims and
Christians live together in the same towns, on the same streets and in the same
buildings. ” He noted that in Egypt "every Christian has the right to
practice his religion."
Currency:
Egypt's currency is the Egyptian Pound (EGP), which is
divided into 100 piastres and can be found on 100, 50, 20, 10, 5 and 1 pound
notes; banknotes of 50, 25, 10 and 5 piastres and coins of 10, 5, 1 and 1/2
